L.A. Mitchell
Writing professionally as L.A. Mitchell, Laura has spent the past 17 years building a career as a full-time ghostwriter, editor, story architect, and writing coach. She is currently at work on her 48th professional book.
Her ghostwriting portfolio spans memoir, business and leadership nonfiction, self-help, young adult, women’s fiction, and romance. She has worked with executives, entrepreneurs, experts, survivors, and everyday extraordinary people all over the world who have stories they knew mattered but didn’t know how to turn their lived experience into books. Her work has earned recognition as well, including two RWA finalist placements and IndieReader and Next Generation Indie finalist honors.
Laura’s most useful experience for an aspiring ghostwriter may have little to do with the books themselves.
She built her business without an agency, a giant social-media following, or a paid advertising machine. For years, her work has come primarily through referrals and her online presence. She learned how to find clients, evaluate projects, price her work, structure contracts, manage expectations, protect her time, work with subcontractors, navigate publishing all the way to a successful launch, and build a reputation strong enough that one client always leads to the next.
That is the business she teaches here.
Laura believes ghostwriting is a real profession, not simply a way to make money writing books. It requires writing ability, certainly, but also judgment, boundaries, business sense, client management, and an understanding of what you are actually selling.
Her goal is to help writers who are ready to hang out their shingle build a ghostwriting business with a solid foundation from the beginning, so they can spend less time guessing and more time doing work they can be proud of.
